The National League East leading Phillies (19-14) will continue their western road trip by playing their second of four games against the National League West leading Diamondbacks (21-11) in Phoenix, Arizona. The games starts at 9:40 pm Eastern (6:40 pm Pacific) in Chase Field. The Phillies’ starter will be Adam Eaton (0-0, 4.72). Eaton, who is still winless after six games, will be coming off of an outing against the Padres on May 1, where he went six innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, which the Phils would eventually win 3-2. Eaton will for the seventh time this season be looking for his first win, although he has pitched well in all but one of his previous starts. His opponent will be Randy Johnson (1-1, 4.79), one of the Diamondbacks’ best pitchers. Johnson’s last start was on April 30 against the Astros, where he went four innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits, and receiving a no decision in the Diamondbacks’ 8-7 victory. His previous start was a victory over the Padres on April 25, where he went six innings, giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out seven in the Diamondbacks’ 5-1 win. He will be trying to get his second victory of the season, and doing it at the Phillies’ expense.
As the Phils met the Diamondbacks in Phoenix, the Marlins will be beginning a three games series against the Brewers in Florida, while the Mets will be trying to rebound in the middle game of their three games set against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
