The Phils suffer a tough lost as they lose to the D-backs, 8-6.

The Phils after taking the lead twice finally fall to the D-backs, 8-6, losing the series in Phoenix.

The Phils took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as, with one man on, and with no body out, Greg Dobbs hits a two-run home run, scoring Ross Gload, who had earlier singled. The Phils would increase their lead in the fifth as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Gload hits a ground out rbi, 4-3, knocking in Wilson Valdez, who had earlier got on base with a bunt single, then went to second on D-back’s pitcher Rodrigo Lopez’s throwing error, before going to third on Carlos Ruiz’s single, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead, while sending Ruiz, who had earlier singled, and then went to second on Kyle Kendrick’s sacrifice bunt, 1-4, went to third. The D-backs came back in their half of the fifth as they pounce on balls that Kendrick was throwing up in the strike zone. The scoring started as, with a runner on first, and with nobody out, Kelly Johnson hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the season, and his fourth in three days, knocking in Lopez, who had earlier singled, cuting the Phils’ lead to 3-2. Three batters later, with runners on the corners, and still nobody out, the D-backs took the lead as Mark Reynolds hits a three-run home run, his seventh home run of the year, knocking in Stephen Drew, who had earlier tripled, and Justin Upton, who had earlier walked, giving the D-backs a 5-3 lead. The Phils came back in the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Jayson Werth hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Chase Utley, who had earlier singled, stole second base and went to third on Ryan Howard’s single, making it a 5-4 D-backs’ lead. Three batters later, the Phils regain the lead as Ruiz hits a two-run single, knocking in Howard, who had earlier gone to third on Raul Ibanez’s double, and Ibanez, who had earlier doubled. The D-backs tied the game up at six-all in the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, John Hester hits an RBI double, scoring Chris Young, who had earlier doubled. In the eighth, the D-backs regain the lead as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Reynolds hits an RBI double, scoring Cole Gillespie, who had earlier doubled, giving the D-backs a 7-6 lead. Two batters later, with two men on, and with still one man out, Young hits an RBI single, scoring Reynolds, giving the D-backs an 8-6 lead, while sending Adam LaRoche, who was earlier intentionally walked, up to second base. That would be the final score as Chad Qualls pitches a 1-2-3 ninth, recording his fourth save of the year.

Kyle Kendrick receives a no-decision as he pitches five innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out four. Danys Baez pitches an inning and a third as he records his second blown save of the year, giving up a run on three hits and a walk. Antonio Bastardo pitches two-third of an inning, getting out both men that he would face. David Herndon gets the lost as he pitches an inning, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. His record is now 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA. Rodrigo Lopez also receives a no-decision as he pitches six innings, giving up six runs on ten hits, while he strikes out five. Esmerling Vasquez, who pitches a scoreless inning, giving up just a walk, while striking out two batters. Leo Rosales pitches a scoreless inning, giving up two hits. Chad Qualls records his fourth save of the year as he pitches a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Phils had twelve hits in the game, with Ross Gload, Ryan Howard, Wilson Valdez and Carlos Ruiz each leading the team with two hits apiece, all singles, with Gload knocking in a run and Ruiz two. Greg Dobbs, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez each getting a hit, with Dobbs’ hits being a two-run home run, and Ibanez’s hit being a doubled. Werth knocked in the other Phil run with a sac fly.

The Phils (11-7, 1st East) continue their road trip in San Francisco with the Giants (10-8, 2nd West), that is in progress.
