A bad first inning does in Cliff Lee as the Phils lose to the Mets, 5-2.

Cliff Lee gives up three runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run, to the Mets, which would lead to the Phils losing to the Mets, 5-2.

The Mets took an early lead in the first as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Daniel Murphy hits an RBI double, knocking in Ruben Tejada, who had started the game off with a double, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, with a runner on third, as Tejada moved up to third base on Ike Davis’ ground out, and with two men out, Jason Bays hits a two-run home run, knocking in Tejada, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead. The Phils would get a run back in the third as Freddy Galvis hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the season, and of his career, cutting the Mets’ lead down to 3-1. The Mets would get that run back in the fifth as Scott Hairston hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the season, giving the  Mets a 4-1 lead. The Mets added to their lead in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Murphy, a fielding error by Jimmy Rollins on Justin Turner’s grounder, with Murphy being safe at second base, a walk to Davis, with both Murphy and Turner moving up a base, and then a force out at home on a grounder hit by Bay, 5-2, with Murphy being out at home, and with the other runners both moving up a base, and with one man out, Lucas Duda hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Turner, giving the Mets a 5-1 lead. The Phils would get a run back in their half of the ninth as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier doubled, would score on second baseman Murphy’s fielding error of pinch hitter Juan Pierre’s grounder as the balls went between his legs, making it a 5-2 Mets’ lead. That would end up being the final score as Shane Victorino ended the game by striking out, swinging.

Cliff Lee (0-1, 3.46) took the lost as he went seven innings, giving up four runs on five hits, while he struck out seven. Kyle Kendrick went an inning and a third, giving up an unearned run, while walking two. Joe Savery went two-thirds of an inning, giving up a walk. R.A. Dickey (2-0, 2.08) got the win as he went seven innings, giving up a run on nine hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Bobby Parnell pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one. Frank Francisco pitched an inning, giving up an unearned run on a hit, as he struck out the side.

The Phils had eleven hits in the game, with Jimmy Rollins leading the team with three hits, two singles and a double, followed by Freddy Galvis (Single, Home Run, RBI) and Cliff Lee (Singles) following with two hits apiece. Shane Victorino (Single), Jim Thome (Single, his first hit since rejoining the Phils), John Mayberry, Jr, (Single) and Carlos Ruiz (Double) had the other four Phils’ hit. The Phil second run came in on a Daniel Murphy error as the ball went between his legs. The Phils had only one walk in the game. as the offense, which had outhit the Mets, was keep off the scoreboard by Dickey.

The Phils (3-4, 3rd) will continue their three-game series with the Mets (5-2,  2nd), with an afternoon game tomorrow afternoon. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park, and will start at 4:05 pm EDT, as one of the games to be televised nationally by Fox Sports. The Phils will send to the mound Vance Worley (0-0, 1.50), who received a no-decision in his start against the Pirates on April 8, as he went six innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out five, in the Phils’ 5-4 ninth-inning lost. He will be trying to even up the series for the Phils as he look for his first win of 2012. The Mets plan to counter with Jon Niese (1-0, 4.50) who is coming off a win against the Braves on April 8, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on two hits and four walks, while he struck out seven, in the Mets’ 7-5 win. He will be trying to give the Mets the series win. The Phils will be out to even up the series with the Mets at a game apiece.
