The Blue Jays took a 1-0 lead in the second as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Brett Lawrie hits an RBI double, knocking in Rajai Davis, who had just doubled. The Blue Jays added to their lead in the third as, with a man on first, and with nobody out, Jose Bautista, who had started the inning off with a single, would score on a force attempt throwing error by third baseman Mike Fontenot on a sharp groundball hit by Edwin Encarncion as Fontenot threw away what was a sure double play ball into right field, allowing Bautista to reach first second base, then third, before finally crossing the plate, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead, while allowing Encarnacion, who was safe at first base, to reach third base. Two batters later, the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead as Yunel Escobar hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, knocking in Encarnacion. That would be the final score as Casey Janssen recorded his sixth save of the year as he threw a scoreless ninth.
Vance Worley (3-3, 2.80) took the lost as he threw seven innings, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and two walks, while striking out five. Michael Schwimer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Drew Hutchison received a no-decision as he went two-thirds of an inning, striking out a batter, before being taken out with an elbow injury as he was facing his third batter of the game. Aaron Laffey also received a no-decision as he pitched an inning and a third in relief, giving up just a hit and a walk. Carlos Villanueva (2-0, 3.48) got the win as he threw four scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and two walks, while he struck out five. Jason Frasor collected his eighth hold of the season as he threw a scoreless inning, walking a batter, while striking out one. Darren Oliver received his sixth hold of the year as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Casey Janssen collected his sixth save of the season with a scoreless inning, as he gave up a hit.
The Phils had just five hits in the game, a double by Jimmy Rollins, a single by Juan Pierre, a double by Hunter Pence, a single by Carlos Ruiz (who later leaves the game with an injury) and a single by Mike Fontenot, as the Phils are unable to do anything against the Blue Jays’ bullpen. The Phils also had three stolen bases (Pierre (12 & 13) and Shane Victorino (14)) and five walks in the ballgame.
The Phils (31-35, 5th NL East) continues their three-game Interleague Play series with the Blue Jays (32-32, 4th AL East) with a game already in progress.
