The Phils end their two game losing streak as they defeat the Marlins, 3-1.

Philadelphia_PhilliesThe Phils’ Vince Velsaquez wins his fifth start of the season as the Phils defeat the fish, 3-1.

The Marlins threaten to take the lead in the top of the first as they puts runners on second and third, via a lead-off single by Derek Dietrich and a double by Martin Prado, with Dietrich stopping at third base, with nobody out. But Phils’ starter Vince Velasquez would get out of the inning by getting Christian Yelich to ground out sharply to shortstop, 6-3, for the inning’s first out, forcing both runners to stay at their present bases, then striking out Giancarlo Stanton, swinging, for the inning’s second out, before ending the inning by getting Justin Bour to foul out to the third baseman for the inning’s final out. The Phils then took the lead in the bottom of the second as, with nobody out, Tommy Joseph hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the season, and of his major league career, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils would increase their lead in the bottom of the fifth as, with a man on third, and with two men out, Peter Bourjos hits an RBI single, knocking in Freddy Galvis, who had started the inning off with a double, then moved up to third base as, with one man out, pinch-hitter Emmanuel Burriss strikes out, swinging, 2-3, as the ball gets away from catcher Jeff Mathis, who then threw the ball to first baseman Bour for the putout, for the inning’s second out, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils made it a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth as, with a runner on first, and with one man out, Joseph hits a single to right center field, which got past center fielder Marcell Ozuna for a fielding error, allowing Cesar Hernandez, who had started the inning off with a single, to score, while allowing Jospeh to reach third base on the two-base error. The Marlins would finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a one-out single by Adeiny Hechavarria, a double by pinch-hitter J.T. Realmuto, with Hechavarria stopping at third base, and a walk by pinch-hitter Chris Johnson, and with one man out, Dietrich hits a sacrifice fly to center field for the inning’s second out, knocking in Hechavarria, making it a 3-1 Phils’ lead. That would end up being the final score as Jeanmar Gomez knotted his fifteenth save of the season by getting Prado to ground out, 3-1, for the game’s final out.

Vince Velasquez (5-1, 2.42) got the win as he pitched five scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks, while striking out ten. Elvis Araujo collected his fourth hold of the season as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Andrew Bailey received his third hold of the season as he threw a third of an inning, getting out the only man whom he would face. David Hernandez collected his ninth hold of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits while striking out the side. Hector Neris received his tenth hold of the year as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out the side.
