Cameron Rupp’s two-run single help lead the Phils to another series win as they defeat the Marlins, 4-2.

The Marlins took the lead in the top of the first as, with a runner on first, and with one man out, Christian Yelich hits an RBI double, knocking in Derek Dietrich, who had started the game off with a walk, giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead, before moving on to third base on the late throw to the plate. The Marlins then took a 2-0 lead two batters later as, with a man still on third, and now with two men out, Marcell Ozuna hits an RBI double, scoring Yelich. The Phils got a run back in the bottom of the third as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Andres Blanco hits an RBI double, knocking in David Lough, who had started the inning off by reaching base on first baseman Justin Bour fielding error, then moving up to second base on Cesar Hernandez’s bunt single to pitcher Tom Koehler, making it a 2-1 Marlins’ lead, while sending Hernandez, who had earlier reached based on a bunt single, on to third base. The Phils would take the lead three batters later as, with the bases now loaded, after Maikel Franco had been intentionally walk, and with one man out, Cameron Rupp hits a two-run single, knocking in both Hernandez and Blanco, giving the Phils a 3-2 lead, while sending Franco up to second base. The Phils added to their lead in the bottom of the eighth as, with one man out, Tyler Goeddel hits a solo home, his first home run of the season, and of his career, giving the Phils a 4-2 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jeanmar Gomez recorded his sixteenth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out Giancarlo Stanton, swinging, for the game’s final out.

Jeremy Hellickson (4-2, 3.99) got the win as he went six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. David Hernandez received his tenth hold of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Hector Neris collected his eleventh hold of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit. Jeanmar Gomez received his sixteenth save of the year as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Tom Koehler (2-4, 4.71) took the lost as he went seven innings, giving up three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits and five walks, while striking out four. Jose Urena pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out two.

The Phils had eight hits in the game, with Tyler Goeddel (RBI) leading the team with three hits, two singles and a home run. Cesar Hernandez (Single), Andres Blanco (Double, RBI), Maikel Franco (Single), Cameron Rupp (Single, 2 RBIs) and pinch-hitter Emmanuel Burriss (Single), had the other five Phils’ hits. The Phils’ offense also had five walks (David Lough, Hernandez, Franco (Intentional), Rupp, Jeremy Hellickson) and a Sacrifice Bunt (Bourjos), while one (Lough) was caught stealing, in the game, while the defense performed three double plays.

The Phils (24-17, 2nd) have the day off tomorrow.
