The Mets tried to increase their lead in the bottom of the fourth as they loaded up the bases, with two men out, via walks to Lucas Duda, Ike Davis and Juan Lagares, as Phils’ starter Cole Hamels for a time seems to have lost control of the strike zone, but Hamels then got out of the inning by striking out Jon Niese, looking, for the inning’s final out. The Phils then took a 4-1 lead one batter later as Chase Utley hits an RBI single, scoring Howard. The Phils added to their lead in the eighth as, with one man on, and with one man out, John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI double, knocking in Dom Brown, who had earlier singled, giving the Phils a 5-1 lead.
