The Phils have earlier announced…

Philadelphia_Philliesthat they have outrighted right handed relief pitcher Shawn Camp to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, and have recalled right handed relief pitcher Luis Garcia.

Camp has appeared in just three games this season, including last night’s outing against the Blue Jays, in which he would pitch in three and a third innings, giving up two runs, both in last night’s game, on seven hits, as he stuck out a batter, for a record of 0-0, 5.40 ERA.

Luis Garcia, who is making his second appearance with the team this year, pitched against the Braves on April 14, pitching a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter, in the Phils’ 9-6 lost. In 2013, Garcia would appear in 24 games, all in relief, compiling a 1-1,  3.73 ERA record, as he threw 31.1 innings, giving up 15 runs, 13 of which were earned, on 27 hits, 23 walks and a hit batter, while striking out 23. At Lehigh Valley this year, Garcia’s record is 2-0 and six saves with a 0.00 ERA, as he had appeared in 11 games, pitching in 13 and 2/3 innings, giving up nine hits, an unearned run and four walks, while striking out 13.

Hopefully Garcia will help to stabilize the bullpen.

The Rockies got a run back in their half of the third as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Tulowitzki hits an RBI double, knocking in Charlie Blackmon, who had started the inning off being hit by the pitch, went to second base on Barnes’ single, then moved up to third base on Carlos Gonzalez’s force out, 4-6, as Barnes is wiped out at second base for the inning’s first out, making it a 3-2 Phils’ lead, while sending Gonzalez, who had been safe at first on the force out, up to third base. The Rockies then tied the game at three-all as Morneau grounded out, 3-unassisted, scoring Gonzalez, while moving Tulowitzki up to third base. At this point, the Rockies’ third base coach decide to send Arenado home, which prompts second baseman Chase Utley to throw the ball towards home plate, after having first caught Brown’s throw, while catcher Carlos Ruiz waited for the ball to arrive while preparing to block the plate. Ruiz soon caught the ball, then tagged out a sliding Arendo, for what was thought to be the inning’s first out. But Rockies’ manager Walt Weiss then came out of the Rockies’ dugout, and asked the umpires to review the play. The play was reviewed and the umpires overturned the call, claiming that Ruiz did not give Arendo a lane to slide through while waiting for the ball to arrive, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead, while LeMahieu would move up to second base on the throw. The Rockies then added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Justin Morneau hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the season, knocking in Carlos Gonzalez, who had started the inning off with a single, giving the Rockies a 3-0 lead. The Phils would finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, knocking in Cody Asche, who had started the inning off with a single, moved up to second base on pitcher Bobby Logan’s throwing error of pinch-hitter John Mayberry, Jr.’s grounder, then went to third base on Ben Revere’s ground out, 3-unassisted, making it a 3-1 Rockies’ lead, while sending Mayberry, who had reached first base on Logan’s throwing error, then moved up to second base on Revere’s ground out, up to third base. That would end up being the final score as LaTroy Hawkins collected his fifth save of the season as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, as he got Brown to fly out to center field for the final out.

Kyle Kendrick (0-2, 3.60) took the lost as he went seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits, while striking out three. Jake Diekman pitched a 1-2-3  inning,  as he struck out two. Jordon Lyles (3-0, 3.04) pitched seven innings, plus one batter, as he gave up a run on five hits and a walk, while he struck out two. Bobby Logan received his third hold of the year, as he pitched an inning, striking out a batter. LaTroy Hawkins received his fifth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Phils had only five hits in the game, all singles, with Jimmy Rollins (RBI) leading the team with two hits. Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Cody Asche had the other three Phils’ hits. The Phils also had a walk (Marlon Byrd) in the game.

The game will be played at Coors Field and will be played at 4:10 pm EDT (2:10 pm MDT). The Phils will send to the mound Roberto Hernandez (1-0, 3.86),  who is coming off a no-decision against the Braves on April 14, as he pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and six walks, while he struck out three, in the Phils’ 9-6 lost. He will be trying to help lead the Phils to a win before they leave Colorado. The Rockies will counter with Juan Nicasio (2-0, 3.50), who is coming off a win against the Padres on April 15, as he went six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk, while he struck out three, in the Rockies’ 3-2 win. He will be trying to lead the Rockies to a series sweep. The Phils will be trying to end their short slide before they head for Los Angeles.

The Phils have just announced…

The Phils outlast the Braves in their second straight pitchers’ duel, as the pitching staff blank Atlanta, 1-0.

Philadelphia_PhilliesThe Phils outlasted the Braves in the two team’s second straight pitchers’ duel, as they defeat Atlanta, 1-0.

The Phils and the Braves would be unable to score for the first seven innings, as both starters would pitch well, with Phils’ starter A.J. Burnett staying out of trouble, as he gave up just three hits, all singles, and two walks, while Braves’ starter Alex Wood, who gave up six hits, would be helped by three doubleplays. The Braves tried to start a rally against Phils’ reliever Antonio Bastardo in the top of the eighth as Gerald Laird led off the inning with a double. But Bastardo would get out of the inning by first getting Wood to strike out, swinging, for the inning’s first out, then getting Jason Heywood to lined out to right for the inning’s second out, and then ending the inning by getting B.J. Upton to pop up to short for the final out. The Phils then started their own rally in their half of the eighth as Dom Brown led the inning off with a single, before moving up to second base on Wil Nieves’ sacrifice bunt, 3-4, for the inning’s first out. Two batters later, after Jayson Nix strikes out, swinging, for the inning’s second out, and pinch-hitter Ryan Howard walks, to put runners on second and first, with two men out, Ben Revere hits an RBI single, knocking in Brown, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending pinch-runner Cody Asche, who was pinch-running for Howard, up to second base. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon would come in and record his fourth save of the year, as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth, getting Chris Johnson to strike out, swinging, for the game’s final out.

A.J. Burnett received a no-decision as he went seven scoreless innings, giving up three hits and two walks, while striking out five. Antonio Bastardo (2-1, 4.32) got the win as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Jonathan Papelbon collected his fourth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. Alex Wood (2-2, 1.67) took the lost as he pitched eight innings, giving up a run on eight hits and a walk, while striking out seven.

The Phils had eight hits in the game, all singles, with Ben Revere (RBI) leading the team with three hits, followed by Chase Utley with two. Marlon Byrd, Dom Brown and A.J. Burnett had the other three Phils’ hits. The Phils also had a walk (pinch-hitter Ryan Howard) and a sacrifice bunt (Wil Nieves) in the game, while they had a runner picked off/caught stealing (Revere), as the defense performed a doubleplay.

The Phils (7-8, 4th East) will go on the road to start a three-games series with the Rockies (7-9, 4th West) tomorrow night. The game will be played at Coors Field, and is to start at 8:40 pm EDT (6:40 pm MDT). The Phils will send to the mound Jonathan Pettibone (0-0, 1.80), who is coming off a good start against the Marlins on April 12, as he threw five innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits and a walk, while he struck out five, in the Phils’ 5-4 extra-innings walk-off win. He will be trying for his first win of 2014. The Rockies will send to the mound Tyler Chatwood (0-0, 6.00), as he is coming off a no-decision against the Giants on April 13, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while he struck out five, in the Rockies’ 5-4 extra-innings’  lost. The Phils will be trying to start off their road trip on a good note.
