Philadelphia_PhilliesThe Phils end up getting blanked by the Blue Jays, 3-0.

The Blue Jays took a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Jose Reyes starts off the game with a lead-off home run, his second home run of the season. The Blue Jays increased their lead four batters later as, with a man on second, and with two men out, Juan Francisco hits an RBI single, knocking in Melky Cabrera, who had earlier singled, then moved up to second base on Edwin Encarnacion’s ground out, 5-3, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead. The Blue Jays then took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Josh Thole hits an RBI double, knocking in Colby Rasmus, who had started the inning off with a walk. The Phils tried to get on the scoreboard in their half of the second as they loaded up the bases, via a lead-off single by Marlon Byrd, a walk by Carlos Ruiz, moving Byrd up to second base, and a walk by Jayson Nix, moving up both runners, and with two men out, when J.A. Happ ended the threat by getting Kyle Kendrick to ground out, 4-3, for the inning’s final out. The Phils tried again in the bottom of the sixth as Byrd started the inning off with a triple, only for the threat to end as he is thrown out trying to score on Ryan Howard’s fly ball to right field, 9-2, for a double play, a call that was later reviewed and upheld by the umpires. That would end up being the Phils’ last major attempt to score, before Brett Cecil collected his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth, getting Freddy Galvis to strike out, swinging, before catcher Thole threw to first base to complete the put out, for the game’s final out.

Kyle Kendrick (0-3, 3.58) took the lost as he pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, three walks and a hit batter, while striking out four. Jake Diekman pitched two 1-2-3 innings, striking out two. J.A. Happ (1-0, 1.93) got the win as he pitched five scoreless innings, giving up just three hits and four walks, while striking out two. Esmil Rogers received his first hold of the season as he pitched an inning, plus a batter, giving up two hits and a walk. Aaron Loup collected his fourth hold of the season as he pitched an inning, giving up a hit, while striking out three. Steve Delabar collected his seventh hold of the season as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one. Brett Cecil received his second save of the year as he threw a scoreless inning, striking out a batter.

The Phils had seven hits in the game, with Ben Revere (Singles), Marlon Byrd (Single, Triple) and Carlos Ruiz (Singles), all leading the team with two hits each. Freddy Galvis had the other Phil hit, a single. The Phils also had five walks (Byrd, Ruiz, John Mayberry, Jr.. Jayson Nix, pinch-hitter Tony Gwynn, Jr.), a runner caught stealing and picked off (both Revere) in the ballgame, while the defense performed a doubleplay.

The Phils (15-15, 5th NL East) will conclude their home portion of their home-home interleague series with the Blue Jays (15-17, T-3rd AL East) with a game that is about to start.
