The Phils made it a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third as, with a man on second, and with two men out, Franco hits an RBI double, knocking in Odubel Herrera, who had just reached base on an infield single, then moved up to second base on second baseman Cory Spangenberg’s throwing error. That would stay the score as Phils starter Jerad Eickhoff would pitch seven strong innings, giving up just four hits as he struck out nine. The Padres tried to threaten in the top of the eighth as they loaded up the bases, via a lead-off single by Alexi Amarista, who then moved up to second base on a force attempt throwing error by first baseman Ryan Howard on a grounder hit by Jon Jay, who was safe on first on the play, and a walk to Spangenberg, moving both runners up a base, with only one man out. But the Phils would then get out of the inning as reliever David Hernandez came back by first striking out Matt Kemp, swinging, for the inning’s second out, then ending the inning by getting Wil Myers to also strike out, swinging. The Padres finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth as, with a man on second, and with two men out, pinch-hitter Brett Wallace hits an RBI single, knocking in pinch-hitter Derek Norris, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on defensive indifference, making it a 2-1 Phils’ lead. That would end up being the final score as Jeanmar Gomez collected his fourth save of the season as he got pinch-hitter Alexei Ramirez to pop out to shortstop for the game’s final out.

The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the bottom of the third as, with two men on, and with two men out, Marlon Byrd hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier doubled, while sending Chase Utley, who had earlier walked, up to third base. The Mariners retook the lead in the top of the fourth as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Logan Morrison hits an RBI double, knocking in Kyle Seager, who had started the inning off with a walk, then moved up to second base on Chris Denorfia’s infield single, before stopping at third base on third baseman Andres Blanco’s throwing error, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead, while sending Denorfia, who had just singled, up to third base. The Phils took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the season, knocking in Ben Revere, who had started the game off with a single, stole second base, then moved up to third base on Andres Blanco’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils added to their lead in the top of the third as, with a man on first, and with two men out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single to deep right center field, knocking in Utley, who has just singled, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. The Brewers would get back into the game in the bottom of the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via a lead-off single by Khris Davis, Mark Reynolds reaching base on a fielding error by third baseman Cody Asche, as Davis stops at second base, and a single by Jean Segura, with both runners moving up a base, and with nobody out, pinch hitter Jeff Bianchi hits a two-run single, knocking in Davis and Reynolds, making it a 3-2 Phils’ lead, before Segura is thrown out at third base, 9-5, for the inning’s first out, as Bianchi stays at first base.
