The Phils take the series from the Mariners as they hold on to win, winning by the score of 4-3.

The Mariners took the lead in the top of the second as Kendrys Morales hits a lead-off home run, his fourth home run of the season, giving the Mariners a 1-0 lead. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the bottom of the third as, with two men on, and with two men out, Marlon Byrd hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier doubled, while sending Chase Utley, who had earlier walked, up to third base. The Mariners retook the lead in the top of the fourth as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Logan Morrison hits an RBI double, knocking in Kyle Seager, who had started the inning off with a walk, then moved up to second base on Chris Denorfia’s infield single, before stopping at third base on third baseman Andres Blanco’s throwing error, giving the Mariners a 2-1 lead, while sending Denorfia, who had just singled, up to third base. The Mariners then took a 3-1 lead three batters later, after Denorfia was thrown out trying to steal home, 2-5-1, for the inning’s first out, a single by Jesus Sucre, sending Morrison, who had stayed on second base during the steal attempt, to third base, before moving up to second base on James Paxton’s sacrifice bunt, 5-4, as, with runners on second and third, and with two men out, Morrison would score on pitcher Cole Hamels’ wild pitch, while Sucre would move up to third base. The Phils would get a run back in their half of the fourth as, with runners on second and third, and with nobody out, Wil Nieves, who had started the inning off with a single, then moved all the way to third base on pitcher Paxton’s throwing error of Blanco’s grounder, allowing Blanco to reach second base, would score on catcher Sucre’s passed ball, making it a 3-2 Mariners’ lead, while Blanco would move up to third base. The Phils then tied the game up at three-all two batters later as Ben Revere hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Blanco. The Phils then took the lead two batters later as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Utley hits an RBI single, knocking in Rollins, who had earlier singled, then moved up to second base on Paxton’s wild pitch, giving the Phils a 4-3 lead. Jonathan Papelbon received his thirtieth save of the year by pitching a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit, while striking out two. James Paxton (3-1, 2.20) took the lost as he pitched just four innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, two walks, a passed ball and a wild pitch, while striking out five. Tom Wilhelmsen, Joe Beimel, Brandon Maurer and Danny Farquhar combined for four scoreless innings, giving up three hits (Wilhelmsen (2), Maurer (1)) and a walk (Wilhelmsen) between them, while striking out four (Wilhelmsen (1), Beimel (1), Maurer (1), Farquhar (2)).

The Phils had ten hits in the game, with Wil Nieves (2 Singles, Double) leading the team with three hits, followed by Jimmy Rollins (Single, Double) with two hits. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon collected his twenty-ninth save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth, getting Brad Miller to pop out to the third baseman for the game’s final out.

Jerome Williams, whom the Phils have recently picked up off the waiver wire, (3-5, 5.91), got the win as he pitched seven, plus one batter, strong innings, giving up just a run on three hits, three walks and a hit batter, while striking out four. Ken Giles pitched an inning, giving up two hits, while striking out the side. Jonathan Papelbon received his twenty-ninth save of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Roenis Elias (9-10, 4.09) took the lost as he pitched four innings, giving up a run on three hits, six walks and a hit batter, while striking out four. Dominic Leone pitched two innings, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out two. Tom Wilhelmsen, Charlie Furbush and Fernando Rodney combined for two scoreless innings, giving up two hits (Wilhelmsen (1), Furbush (1)) between them, while striking out two (Wilhelmsen (1), Furbush (1)).

He will be trying to give the Phils the series win, while trying to bounce back from the lost.
