The Phils have just announced that they have inked Jerome Williams to a one-year deal.

Williams, whom the Phils have picked up off of waivers during the summer, would start in nine games for the Phils, ending the season with a record of 4-2, with a 2.83 ERA, as he appeared in 57.1 innings, giving up 48 hits and 20 runs, 18 of which were earned, as he struck out 38 batters while walking 17. Williams, who also pitched for the Astros and the Rangers during the season, would appear in a total of 37 games, with 11 starts, compiling a combined record of 6-7 with a 4.77 ERA, as he pitched in 115.0 innings, giving up 125 hits and 64 runs, 61 of which were earned, as he struck out 82 batters while walking 36.

Williams would be receiving $2.5 million dollars, including performance bonuses, as he stays with the team, being one of the team’s confirmed starters, with the others being team ace Cole Hamels and Dave Buchanan, while Cliff Lee works his way back from a year ending elbow injury, and A.J. Burnett decides whether to stay with the team, attempt free agency or retire from baseball and Kyle Kendrick looks to become a free agent after the World Series is over.

Glad to still have you on the team, Jerome. Hope that 2015 will be as good for you as the final month or so of 2014 was.

The Phils took the lead in the top of the seventh as, with a runner on first, and with two men out, Kyle Kendrick help his own cause as he breaks up a 0-0 tie with an RBI double, scoring Darin Ruf, who had started the inning off with a walk, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Marlins would tie the game up at one-all in their half of the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Enrique Hernandez hits an RBI double, knocking in Garrett Jones, who had started the inning off with a double. The Phils retook the lead in the top of the eighth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Marlon Byrd hits an RBI single, knocking in Maikel Franco, who had started the inning off with a single, then moved up to second base on Chase Utley’s ground out, 4-3, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while sending up to second base Ryan Howard, who had just walked. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon recorded his thirty-eighth save of the season as he pitched a scoreless ninth.

Kyle Kendrick (10-13, 4.61) got the win as he pitched seven innings, giving up a run on six hits and a walk, while striking out two. Ken Giles recorded his twelfth hold of the year as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Jonathan Papelbon received his thirty-eighth save of the season by pitching a scoreless inning, giving up a hit while striking out a batter. Brad Hand received a no-decision as he pitched seven innings, giving up a run on six hits and three walks, while striking out a batter. Chris Hatcher (0-3, 3.27) took the lost as he went a third of an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk. A.J. Ramos pitched two-thirds of an inning, walking a batter. Carter Capps pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit.

The Padres took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Cameron Maybin hits an RBI single, knocking in Tommy Medica, who had started the inning off with a single, then stole second base, giving the Padres a 1-0 lead. The Phils took the lead in the top of the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Darin Ruf, Dom Brown and Carlos Ruiz, and with nobody out, Freddy Galvis hits a two-run single, knocking in Ruf and Brown, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while sending Ruiz up to second base. The Phils added to their lead two batters later, after Cole Hamels had hit a sacrifice bunt, 5-4, moving both runners up a base, putting runners on second and third, and with one man out, Ben Revere hits a two-run ground-rule double, scoring both Ruiz and Galvis, giving the Phils a 4-1 lead. The Phils added an insurance run in the top of the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Ruiz hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Ruf, who had started the inning off with a double, then stopped at third base on Brown’s single, giving the Phils a 5-1 lead. The Padres got a run back in the bottom of the ninth as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Alexi Amarista hits an RBI single, scoring Maybin, who had earlier walked, then went to second base on defensive indifference, making it a 5-2 Phils’ lead. The Phils took the lead in the bottom of the second as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home run, his seventeenth home run of the season, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Astros would tie the game up at one-all in the top of the seventh as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Jon Singleton hits an RBI single, knocking in Chris Carter, who had started the inning off with a walk, then stopped at second base on Jason Castro’s single, while sending Castro, who had just singled, all the way to third base. Kyle Kendrick then pitched himself out of the inning by first getting Matt Dominguez to fly out to right, with it not being deep enough to score Castro, then getting Jake Marisnick to hit into a 6-3 double play, wiping out Singleton at second base for the inning’s second out. The Brewers took the lead four batters later as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Jonathan Lucroy, and then walks to first Aramis Ramirez and then Khris Davis, and with one man still out, Lyle Overbay hits a grand-slam home run, his fourth home run of the season, knocking in Lucroy, Ramirez and Davis, giving the Brewers a 5-1 lead. The Phils took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the season, knocking in Ben Revere, who had started the game off with a single, stole second base, then moved up to third base on Andres Blanco’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils added to their lead in the top of the third as, with a man on first, and with two men out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single to deep right center field, knocking in Utley, who has just singled, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. The Brewers would get back into the game in the bottom of the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via a lead-off single by Khris Davis, Mark Reynolds reaching base on a fielding error by third baseman Cody Asche, as Davis stops at second base, and a single by Jean Segura, with both runners moving up a base, and with nobody out, pinch hitter Jeff Bianchi hits a two-run single, knocking in Davis and Reynolds, making it a 3-2 Phils’ lead, before Segura is thrown out at third base, 9-5, for the inning’s first out, as Bianchi stays at first base.
